About Centre for Social Action:
Centre For Social Action (CSA) a registered trust (Reg. No. E17189), is the Office for Social Work and Development of the Archdiocese of Bombay. The mission of CSA is to initiate and sustain non-violent, collaborative, and integral development processes for vulnerable individuals and groups and work for the empowerment and upliftment of the poor and the marginalised people in the city of Mumbai and its suburbs, Dharavi Island (comprising the villages of Uttan, Gorai, Manori, Pali, Chowk and Dongri), parts of Thane district and whole of Raigad district.
Social involvement is the core of the Catholic Church's mission and in order to empower the poor and the marginalized, CSA runs developmental programs through a network of Community Based Organizations (CBOs)and partner NGOs. In order to accomplish the mission on social involvement, CSA has developed Social Perspective Plans for the Mumbai Region, Dharavi Island and Raigad District.
As per the Archdiocesan Social Perspective Plan (ASPP) the four broad Program Areas and projects being implemented by CSA are:
- Vulnerable Children & Education
- Women’s Empowerment & Right To Sustainable Livelihood
- Environment & Good Governance
- Communal Harmony & Emergency Response
Through the program area of vulnerable children and education we propose to restore the dignity of vulnerable children and bring about an equal and value based education by providing support structures ensuring their right to education and building in them civic consciousness through BalSansads -Children’s Parliament Groups.
Currently CSA through its partners have Supplementary Classes organized at 15 Centres covering 4326 tribal children from 50 villages in Raigad and Thane Districts. We also have 20 Centres having 689 children out of 2947 children in 137 Bal Sansad groups who have actually worked on issues and have 838 children have volunteered for various community services like cleanliness campaigns and camps.
During the coming year we plan to expand our work with 5000 children especially with regard to the Supplementary Classes and the Bal Sansads. We propose to work with 1500 Child Leaders in 140 Bal Sansads empowered to take up Environment, Health, Education Issues within their village by 2018.
