Financial Literacy programme by Sahayog Samaj Kendra, Chowk on 26/7/16

On 26-7-16 Sahayog Samaj Kendra Chowk organised a financial literacy programme. About 80 participants were present for the programme.

A team from State bank of India, Bhayandar comprising of  Mrs. Sampada Nandedkar, Mr. Salvi, Mr Khatate, Mr. Gurumeet singh Mr.Vishwas Rathod and Mr. Rohit Kapadiya were the resource persons for this programme.



They gave a lot of information on various topics like Savings, Insurance policy, Medi-claim policy, Banking schemes etc.


It was a very informative session. The people benefited a lot from this session.

Financial Literacy training for Dharavi Island Staff on 25-7-16.

On 25- 7-2016 a financial literacy training programme was conducted for DI CSA and CCO staff with State Bank of India staff.  

Mr.  Salvi SBI Marketing executive & Ms Sapanda Nandedkar- SBI Staff were the  resource persons for the programme.


The staff got information on different types of accounts such as savings, recurring deposits and fixed deposits. Information was also given on SBI general, Life & Health Insurance.


This was interactive meeting where staff asked for clarifications on various topics especially on insurance. It was an enriching session.

Financial literacy programme by Savdhaan Social Centre Manori on 21/7/16

On 21-7-2016 Savdhaan Social Center, Manori organized a financial literacy program for women. There were 21 participants for the programme.

Mr Dayanand Patil was resource person. He spoke about the importance of saving.
  He explained to them a variety of saving schemes in the bank like savings account, recurring deposits and fixed deposits. He also spoke about the LIC schemes &  Post office schemes.


 After the session 9 women were motivated to open a recurring deposit  account in a nationalized bank.

Awareness Rally by Balsansad children in Gorai on 9/7/16

About 120 Balsansad children participated in an Awareness Rally organised by Suryodaya Samaj Kendra on 9/7/16.

It aimed at creating awareness on the MMRDA Development plan among the people. 

   The development plan marks the area as an entertainment and tourist zone. The development plan also intends to build a bridge in their area.  According to the residents this will lead to a loss of livelihood and displace them from their homes.


The children enthusiastically participated in the rally, singing awareness songs, and displaying the placards and the banners prepared for the event.


As a result of this awareness the community was mobilized and around 500 villagers gathered together in the community hall. Sr. Christle and two others community members from the Gorai Fisherfolk Society shared about the Development Plan and the proposed plan of the MMRDA. They encouraged the villagers to be aware and prepare an action plan on how to voice their dissent on the Development Plan which was put up by the Government for feedback.

Financial Literacy programme by Prerna Seva Kendra Dongri on 7/7/16

On 7/7/16 Prerna Seva Kendra Dongri had organised a Financial Literacy programme for women. There were 33 participants for the programme. The resource persons were Mr. Rajesh Durander and Ms. Latika from Dena Bank. 

They spoke about saving schemes in the bank like savings account, recurring deposits and fixed deposit. They also spoke about Stree Shakti Yojana and insurance schemes that would benefit the women.

Core committee meeting at Savdhaan Samaj Kendra on 6/7/16

Core committee meeting was held on 6th July 2016 in Manori church hall at 11.00 a.m. The director of the Savdhaan  Samaj Kendra Fr. Michael D’souza was also present for this meeting. This meeting was a followup of the PRA meeting. There were about 18 members who attended the meeting. It was animated by Mr. Dayanand Patil.
The members had collected Information from the PRA tools formats given to them. They shared the information gathered by them from the people. Discussion was held on the following topics:

1.       Low Income from farming.
2.       Issues related to fishing profession such as low income generation, hygiene, marketing, cold storage facility, boat maintenance etc. 
3.       Lack of implementation of Government schemes.
4.       Wastage of drinking water.
5.       Lack of dual business opportunity.
6.        Lack of higher education.
7.       Lack of vocational skills & career guidance.
8.       Poor Health.
9.       Tourism issue (MMRDA)
10.   Addiction of Alcohol
11.   Superstition
12.   Sanitation issue
13.   No English medium secondary high school.
14.   Women’s health.
15.   Issues relating to   Kishori girls.
16.   Ration issue

From the above issues the following issues were given priority  
1.       Health.
2.       Low income in fishing business.
3.       Superstition
4.       Addiction of Alcohol
5.       Lack of dual business opportunity.
6.       Festivals & Celebration lot of waste money in this things
