Learning to handle Domestic Violence, Gorai CCO - 2nd Feb, 2016

Report: Session began with short prayer conducted by Mrs. Natal Gabru. There after Ms. Nasim introduced the resource person who came from Dilasa NGO, then Sr. Christel introduce Ms. Sam who is interact through CSA she has come from Canada for an experience.

After which Resource person asked the women what do you understand by Domestic violence there few women gave answered that D.V Means Harassment from husband, Mother in law, etc. then she explain to them the whole concept of D.V. how it happened, who does? What type of D.V is faced by women& young girls, she also shared her experience through various case studies, how women try to hide the thing due to few, shame of family etc.
 
Resource person also stressed what can be done when it happened to us? She mentioned about D.V. and laws which applies to it. Women also interacted with her through their experiences in neighborhood, with this one of the SHG members Mrs. Sandra Gabru thanked her with this we winded up the session.

Financial Literacy for Fisherfolk Men - Uttan CCO - 26th Jan, 2016

Sneh Jyot CCO of Uttan conducted 3 Financial Literacy Modules for Fisherfolk men At Bal Yeshu Samaj Mandir, Patan (Uttan)

We had the session on Financial Literacy for Fisherfolk men of Uttan. There were total 50 participants.  It was very interesting and interactive session. There was very good response from them. Many questions were raised.  We covered 3 modules of Financial Literacy that is:

1. Why Saving – Importance of Saving (Slides 1-4)

2. Why Budget:
·         Indentified current spending habits
·         Analysed daily expenditure
·         Explained the difference between needs and wants
·         Relation between Budget and Saving
  1. 3. Financial Planning:
·         Essential and non essential Expenses
·         Financial planning
·         How to reduce the expense

Ownership Training at Dongri CCO for Core Committee Members

OWNERSHIP TRAINING AT DONGRI FOR CORE COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The training began with a short prayer conducted by Mr. Sebastian, and then Ms Sheetal- CSA program co-ordinator asked the question what they wants change at Dongri parish after few years to a few core committee members who replied saying that, as core committee members they want to made changes in better accessing school facilities for children, raised voice against alcoholism, accessing transportation facility, reducing unnecessary expenses in marriage ceremony, save environment etc.

CSA promotes Gorai Youth to run for SC Mumbai Marathon 2016

Centre for Social Action in collaboration with Gorai CCO - Suryodaya Samaj Kendra supported by Fr. Sandeep Borges encouraged a young boy of 19 years - Loyvain Henriques from Muddhan Pakadhi, a Gorai Village to run for Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) 2016.

Loyvain Henriques is a first year commerce student studying at St. Andrew's College and has been training barefoot by running on Gorai beach since November. He plays football and he challenged the limits of his physical capability by qualifying to run on behalf of his village.

SCMM 2016 will be flagged off on the 17th January, 2016 as over 40,000 runners  will be participating to celebrate the health and spirit of Mumbai and mainly to pledge their monetary support for NGOs working for a cause. This year Centre for Social Action has put up 35 runners - 6 for Half Marathon runners  (21 kms) and 29 runners for Dream Run (6 kms). The amount required for the runners have been pledged through Individual Donors, and Corporate Donors - Redi Port and Crompton Greaves. 


Celebrating the spirit of giving and contributing towards making a difference, CSA will be utilizing the money generated from this event for the cause of Women Empowerment and specifically for promoting Supplementary Classes and Balsansads for Vulnerable Children in Raigad and Thane Districts.

Financial Training Program For Self Help Groups - Uttan CCO - 7th Jan, 2016

Saving is the main aspect of Self Help Groups however the village women were not trained for it. So Uttan CCO organised a financial training program for Sudershan SHG (Karaipada) on 7th Jan 16, around nine women took part in this training program.

The financial literacy has three modules I, II and III, the main basic concept of it was Importance of saving, Importance of Budgeting and planning. The topics covered with the group were about saving and its importance, the importance of Budget which included the identified current spending habits, analysed daily expenditure, and explained the difference between needs and wants, relation between budget and saving. Then financial planning included the essential and non essential expenses, financial planning and how to reduce the expense.

The women really gained from this training program and there was a good response from women for all the three modules. The training sessions were interactive and interesting.  The women raised many questions regarding savings and they expressed how it was difficult to them earlier. Finally they assured that they will do good saving in coming days.

Christmas Get-Together With Senior Citizen And Asha Deep Widows on 7th Jan 2016

 
Christmas is the time when we can remember our senior citizens and acknowledge their contribution to society. The Gorai CCO organized a get-together for the senior citizens and widows from the Asha deep Widows. Around fifty five people enthusiastically took part on the 7th Jan for this get together which included Fr. Sandeep, Sr. Christel and CCO staff - Mrs. Natal, Miss Nasim and core committee member Mr. Royston.

The program started by the welcome address which was done by the Fr. Sandeep in good way, then all the participations had their breakfast. Soon after the breakfast the participations were divided into five groups and were asked to sing two Christmas carol songs. The Christmas message was shared with them on the topic of unity and generosity. Then the participations were asked to play out door games like making a long chain and leading the blind where the participations thoroughly enjoyed and they forget all their problems.


After the outdoor games the participations had a good lunch which was arranged by the CCO. The senior participants were asked to sing songs and dance on the songs played. After the program, prizes were distributed to all the participations which were sponsored by local donors.  The program ended with a short prayer and a short thank you speech.

Balsansad Children from Gorai CCO celebrate Christmas 30-12-15

Christmas is a time when all children want to come together for a little celebration. The Balsansads in Gorai under the leadership of the Gorai CCO decided to surprise the children with a celebration but with a difference. 

On the 30th December, 2015, the Gorai CCO gathered together 40 children from the Bal Sansads and celebrated Christmas. The program started with a short prayer conducted by Mrs. Natal, thereafter she divided the children into four groups, giving them names of 4 gospel writer after which she introduced the Gospel Authors to each group who were given the responsibility of singing two Christmas Carol Songs. All the four groups participated enthusiastically.

Sr. Christel the shared with the children a Christmas message through story which was based on values of life like, truthfulness love, forgiveness and concern. She then showed them how the story is linked and also applicable to their daily lives.

The CCO Staff and volunteers then distributed snacks to the children and each child received a Christmas Gift. Fr. Sandeep conducted a few action songs and engaged the children in song and dance which they enjoyed and participated actively. The program ended with a thanks giving by the children and also Ms. Nasim Kasughar.
