Mr
Edwin Nunes is young farmer from Tarodi area. He joined farmer’s exposure visit
at Krushi Vigyan Kendra, Kosbad- Dahanu which was organised by Centre for Social
Action in collaboration with Prerna Seva Kendra, Dongri. He shared with the CCO
staff that he got practical knowledge of various pesticides techniques which
adversely affect the crops. He implemented the newly acquired knowledge into practice and succeeded.
Mr
Edwin has a small papaya tree. He observed that the leaves were getting white spots. He remembered the techniques which he learnt from the exposure visit and immediately experimented. He took surf (detergent powder)
& sprinkled it on leaves. After 2-3 days he observed the difference that the spots disappeared. He utilised his new knowledge to better the condition of the papaya trees. Through this initiative his confidence has increased and he is now a strong promoter of the information and activities shared through CSA and its staff.
Apart from this Mr. Edwin has cultivated onion crop too. Earlier he used chemical fertilizers
which degraded the land productivity but now he knows the importance of natural
compost. He has started the process of making compost through a compost pit admeasuring 5 x 8 feet.
The exposure visit has also given him a clear idea
about the advantages and multi purposes of starting dairy business. It will be undertaken as a joint
business. Through a Dairy, one can also obtain a good produce of milk, cow dung.
Through this small intervention we can proudly say that Mr Edwin through his action has
contributed towards the United Nations sustainable goal No. 15 (life on
land) - To protect and conserve the natural environment.
